Heavy rainfall forecast for Cumbria Saturday 3rd to Sunday 4th November

Alert message sent 02/11/2018 15:30:00

Information sent on behalf of The Environment Agency

A band of persistent and heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is expected to affect Cumbria during Saturday and into Sunday before clearing eastwards .  The rain will strengthen and weaken in its intensity over this period and combined with strong winds and falling leaves there is likely to be some localised surface water flooding.

As river levels are currently running at average levels for this time of year, we currently forecast some rise with only Flood Alert thresholds possibly being met.  This means flooding to low lying land and roads is possible.  We do not forecast at this time any Flood Warning thresholds being met meaning we do not expect any flooding to property.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation over the weekend.  Please refer to our website https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/ for up to date information on warnings in force.

Be flood ready.  It is important that you are prepared for flooding and we encourage you to take 3 simple steps:-

  1.  Sign up to Flood Warning Service to receive free flood warnings
  2. Know what to do when a flood warning is issued.  We encourage you have a personal flood plan for you and your family
  3. Keep an eye on the situation.  You can view a 5 day weather forecast and monitor river levels online at https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/ and www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/

Further information is available on our website www.gov.uk/flood or by ringing Floodline on 0345 988 1188.
